The size of fruiting bodies has an important role in the development of your fruit tree as well as in the control of its production.

Although not essential, it is recommended when you want a higher yield.

When to prune fruiting bodies?

The best time is in the heart of winter, outside of the frost.
For the apple trees, the pear trees, the peach and the apricot trees, it is preferable to prune before the resumption of vegetation, in February.

What technique to use for pruning fruit?

This pruning is obviously only used on trained trees and not on young trees.
It must therefore have a solid frame.

  • Start by removing dead branches, intersecting branches, and damaged wood.
  • Remove any old fruit that may have remained on the branches.
  • You have to thin the fruit tree after cleaning it,
To do this, remove all branches growing inward from the tree. They are of no use and can affect fruiting.
  • Finally, prune the main branches going around the tree.
    Without modifying the silhouette,
You cut the ends, taking care to leave at least 3 eyes.
You prune above an outward-facing bud to prevent new inward growth.

Smart tip about fruiting pruning

Once this work is done, you can apply a healing putty on the larger pruned branches.
It is not essential but it is recommended to avoid any risk of disease!
